Our goal in promoting community economic development is to strengthen the economic empowerment of communities, enabling community members to become more self-reliant, have greater livelihood choices, and live with dignity while exercising their rights.
The Upland Holistic Development Foundation/UHDF promotes projects that strengthen the economic empowerment of communities, enabling them to live with dignity and exercise their rights. These include Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), home gardening, agroforestry, coffee and tea cultivation, seedling production, and community livelihood development.
These initiatives aim to help households achieve more secure incomes and food sources, manage their resources and finances effectively, and strengthen their ability to make decisions about their lives and the future of their families and communities. These are important foundations for building strong, self-reliant, and resilient communities.

Our organization promotes projects that economically empower communities to exercise their rights through various initiatives, such as…
Promoting the establishment of VSLA savings groups is an approach that enables communities in remote areas with limited access to banks and financial institutions to manage their own finances. Each group typically consists of 15–25 members who come together to save money and collectively manage a shared fund.
The process emphasizes member participation at every stage, from establishing rules and saving money to managing the fund and making collective decisions about its use. This promotes transparency, accountability, and shared ownership, while also strengthening financial discipline and increasing access to funds for household needs or livelihood activities.

Backyard farming and small-scale livestock farming are important approaches that help households in remote areas become more self-reliant and achieve sustainable food security. This includes growing vegetables and food crops and raising small livestock suitable for each household’s context. These activities help reduce household food expenses, create additional income opportunities, and provide families with more reliable and safe sources of food.
The Farmer Field School pilot in the community is an approach to strengthening agricultural knowledge and skills, particularly among farmers interested in improving cultivation practices and developing more efficient and sustainable agricultural production. The approach emphasizes hands-on learning, field-based experimentation, and the sharing of knowledge and experiences among farmers.
