Community forests are areas where local communities participate in the management and sustainable use of forest resources. Communities can collectively access and use resources from the forest when clear boundaries, rules, and regulations are established. Resource use should be guided by seasonal availability and the forest’s capacity for natural regeneration in order to maintain the balance of nature, wildlife, biodiversity, and ecosystems. This approach also helps support traditional community livelihoods and ways of life.

Project Goals
- Promote community participation in the conservation and restoration of forest resources.
- Build understanding and awareness of the community’s roles and rights in forest management.
- Promote the sustainable use of forest resources, such as using the forest as a source of food and sustainably harvesting timber and other forest products for household use.
Project Implementation Process
- Building Knowledge and Understanding: Organize training sessions and community forums to provide information about the community forest registration process, including the rights, responsibilities, and roles of communities in managing community forests.
- Site Survey and Assessment: Work with community members to survey the forest area proposed for registration, develop maps, and collect key information such as the size of the forest, available resources, and its current condition.
- Community Forest Registration Application: Support the community in preparing the required documents, such as survey information, a forest management plan, and site maps, as well as coordinating and submitting the application to the relevant authorities.
- Developing a Community Forest Management Plan: Work together with the community to establish appropriate approaches for forest conservation, restoration, and sustainable use. This includes establishing a community forest committee to oversee and manage the area collectively.
- Supporting Activities After Registration: Support forest restoration and conservation activities, promote sustainable resource use, and monitor and evaluate progress. The information gathered will be used to improve the community forest management plan and ensure long-term benefits for the community.
